THE Cairns Chinese community is preparing for its biggest ever Chinese New Year celebrations in February next year.
The Cairns Chinese New Year Street Festival is an annual major festival celebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year. Since its humble beginnings in 2004, the festival has proven greatly enjoyable and provides a wide variety of activities and staged performances. There are market stalls, Chinese dancing and a parade featuring the dragon, lions and the 12 Zodiac Animals. It is suitable for families and all ages, so be sure to mark it on your calendar! It is brought to you by your local chinese community organisation CADCAI.
2012 is the "Year of the Water Dragon" and the Chinese New Year Street Festival is on again bigger and better than ever.
WHERE: Cairns Esplanade - Fogarty Park
WHEN: Saturday 21st January 2012
TIME: 3pm to 8pm (Dragon parade starts at 4.00pm)
